Limited to 60 copies (No. 121–180), this Art Edition features three facsimile volumes of Françoise Gilot’s travel sketchbooks from 1974 to 1981, combining the distinct atmospheres of Venice, India, and Senegal with her signature abstract figuration. The collection is complemented by Senegal (2017), a hand-printed, six-color lithograph signed by the artist, reproducing a vivid page from her African travels.

Created exclusively for TASCHEN, the print depicts a highly abstracted group of musicians gathering in a hut. Gilot captured how the music unlocked new layers of perception and anticipated lasting memories, setting these vibrant colors apart from the more spontaneous drawings throughout the sketchbooks.
